Escape from Tarkov is the rare shooter where RAM capacity is a headline requirement. Streets of Tarkov in particular loads an enormous amount of geometry and loot state, and systems with 16 GB will stutter in ways that no graphics setting addresses.

Offline mode and the smaller maps give a badly misleading picture. If you are tuning for the worst case, tune on Streets during a live raid — everything else will then run comfortably.

Settings that matter most

  • Shadow quality: Low. Large maps with many light sources make this a heavy cost.
  • Grass distance: Reducing it helps frame rate and does not remove player-hiding cover at range.
  • Texture quality: Medium on 8 GB cards to reduce memory pressure on Streets.

Scope and assumptions

Covers live raids on the largest maps, which are heavily CPU- and memory-bound. Offline mode understates the load.

  • • 1080p: CPU and RAM capacity matter more than the GPU.
  • • 1440p: 32 GB of RAM noticeably reduces stutter on Streets.
  • • Streets of Tarkov: treat it as the benchmark; other maps are far lighter.

Troubleshooting checks

  • • Persistent stutter usually means memory pressure, not GPU load.
  • • Lower shadow and grass distance before resolution.
