About Baldur's Gate 3 on PC

Baldur's Gate 3 is generous with graphics settings and stingy with CPU time. Acts 1 and 2 will run at Ultra on modest hardware and give a completely misleading impression; Act 3's city, with its crowds and scripted NPC routines, is where frame rates fall and where any settings work should actually be done.

If the city runs poorly while the wilderness is smooth, no graphics change will help meaningfully. That gap is the processor, and it is the single most common source of confusion about this game's performance.

Covers the current PC build. Act 3's city is treated as the CPU worst case; earlier acts are not representative.
