Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora uses the Snowdrop engine and is gorgeous at any settings, but its standout feature is hardware-accelerated ray tracing baked into every preset — even Low. This means the game looks consistently spectacular but cannot run on GPUs without ray-tracing hardware (so no GTX 10/16-series support at all).

On an RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT, target 1440p with the High preset and FSR Quality for a stable 60 FPS. The Unobtanium preset (above Ultra) is a developer flex — even an RTX 4090 struggles to hold 60 FPS at 4K Unobtanium. There's no reason to use it unless you're chasing screenshots.

Scope and assumptions

Uses the Snowdrop PC build with its software ray-tracing path always enabled. Dense jungle scenes are the reference workload.

  • • 1080p: High with Quality upscaling suits current mid-range cards.
  • • 1440p: the Unobtanium preset is not a realistic target outside flagship hardware.
  • • 4K: rely on upscaling and keep textures high rather than chasing native rendering.

Troubleshooting checks

  • • Test in thick jungle, not in open plains, before locking a preset.
  • • Volumetric and scattering settings cost more than shadow detail here.
