GTA VI is Rockstar's most ambitious release yet, and early benchmarks show a punishing CPU load — Vice City's pedestrian simulation, traffic AI, and dynamic weather system push even modern processors hard. The engine scales well visually thanks to a robust low-end preset, but the CPU floor for stable 60 FPS is meaningfully higher than GTA V was.

For 60 FPS at 1440p, plan on at least a Ryzen 7 5800X3D or Core i5-13600K paired with an RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT, with FSR or DLSS at Quality. Texture quality is heavy on VRAM — 12 GB is the sweet spot at 1440p and 16 GB is recommended for 4K Ultra textures. If you're CPU-limited, lower crowd density and traffic density before touching anything visual.

Scope and assumptions

Covers the PC release with current drivers. Vice City's pedestrian, traffic, and weather simulation is treated as a CPU workload separate from the renderer.

  • • 1080p: a modern six-core CPU matters more than a large GPU for holding 60 FPS in traffic.
  • • 1440p: a 12 GB GPU with Quality upscaling is the practical baseline for High textures.
  • • 4K: expect to rely on upscaling and to cap texture quality by available VRAM.

Troubleshooting checks

  • • Drops that persist when you lower resolution point at the CPU; reduce crowd and traffic density first.
  • • Enable XMP/EXPO before blaming the GPU — memory speed is unusually visible in dense city blocks.
