Destiny 2 PC Settings Guide
Destiny 2's engine is efficient and its settings menu is unusually granular, which makes hand-tuning worthwhile. Patrol zones will run at almost any setting; six-player raid encounters and public events with heavy ability spam are the scenes that define your real frame rate.
Depth of field and screen-space ambient occlusion are the two options that cost the most for the least benefit in a fast first-person shooter, and both are safe early cuts.
Settings that matter most
- Depth of field: Off. Expensive and it blurs exactly what you are aiming at.
- Foliage detail distance: A large saving on planetary patrol zones with little visual impact.
- Shadow quality: Medium is a reasonable compromise for raid encounters.
Scope and assumptions
Covers current activities including raids and public events, which are heavier than patrol zones.
- • 1080p: High is comfortable on mid-range GPUs.
- • 1440p: reduce depth of field and screen-space ambient occlusion before textures.
- • High refresh: achievable outside six-player raid encounters.
Troubleshooting checks
- • Raid encounters and public events are the real workload; patrol is not.
- • Foliage and shadow distance are the most expensive sliders.
